Meet inspirational John Lewis

As the Fliteboarding word spreads, more people are discovering the joy of flying over water without wind or waves, emission free, wake free and virtually silent. From beginner to pro, young or old, Fliteboarding caters to every skill level, because it is a low impact and relatively low exertion activity. It’s easy enough to pick up in a single session, but offers more than enough scope for anyone wanting to challenge themselves further and ride more athletically. And most of all, it’s fun. The sheer buzz of riding in a pristine aquatic environment, on an eFoil that’s designed to keep it that way, can’t be overstated.

A Fliteboard might be the most desirable superyacht accessory, but you don’t have to be a celebrity to own and enjoy one. As the global Fliteboarding community grows we’re seeing a groundswell of enthusiasm from people all walks of life. One such group is the older set who have time on their hands to fall in love with a new hobby - something active that gets them out into the water, when they aren’t as physically strong or flexible as they used to be.

Inspirational ex-surfer John Lewis, 76, from Australia’s Central Coast is one of those people.

Like many, John first discovered Fliteboarding through a Fliteschool, when his kids bought him a lesson for Fathers’ day. One lesson turned into two, two into three and pretty soon John had caught the bug, bought a Fliteboard of his own and “never looked back”.

John had been surfing since the age of 12 - primarily because he thought it would be a great way to attract girls, and while that worked, it turned out he loved surfing too. But as the years ticked by, his body started to tell him he needed to go on a longer board as he was finding it harder to get up and he couldn’t do takeoffs like he used to.

Fliteboarding changed all of that and has given him a new lease of life, both in and out of the water. He’s out there nearly everyday, wave riding whenever he can. He loves being able to drop and turn into the face of a wave just like he used to on his short surfboard. Only this time paddling out is a whole lot easier and he never has to wait for the perfect set.

In John’s words “It's been a year since I've surfed, since I've learned to Fliteboard, and I can't go back.”

So if you’re ever on Australia’s Central Coast, lookout for John and his distinctive classic blue ute - it’s the one with the custom made Fliteboard cover and the guy at the wheel who just can’t hide his enthusiasm for Fliteboarding and life in general.
