Woman in Flite: Philipa Murphy, Flite Global Marketing Director
Philipa Murphy has been with Flite as their Global Marketing Director for nearly 3 years. She couldn’t be more passionate about the brand, often seen eFoiling at locations around the world, including on her personal holidays.
In past roles, she has interviewed celebrities like Quentin Tarantino and Samuel L. Jackson, but today we’re turning the tables by asking her the questions.
What does Fliteboarding give you?
Fliteboarding gives me the ability to go to some of the most incredible waterways around the world, places I wouldn’t have thought I could experience flying over water.
What is one of your favorite memories on the water?
Watching my friends and family fly for the first time. The thrill they experience and the huge smiles they have on their faces – it's hard to beat that.
What is your favorite Fliteboard setup?
White or Coral PRO, True glide prop, Flow 1100 with a Sports battery.
What does freedom mean to you?
Getting to explore all the incredible places we have in this world, either by foot or by water – flying across oceans, lakes, rivers and fjords, what’s more freeing than that?
As someone who has showcased how accessible and fun Fliteboarding is, how do you think this sport will keep evolving?
The more we showcase the various ways to enjoy eFoiling the more involvement we will get, which will grow the sport. It can be exploring the waterways on adventure tours, relaxing with family and friends on the lake cruising around, or taking it up a notch racing and freestyle tricks. There is an experience for everyone.
With so much responsibility at work, what do you do to take care of your mental health?
In all honesty, I don’t do a very good job of it at all. I am great at making sure others are looking after theirs, so it’s about time I took my own advice.
What is your personal definition of success?
Being happy on where you are in life and having a village around you – be it the family you are born into, or the ones you've have chosen to be your family, or friends that are like family. Having that support around you, lifting you up, cheering you on, helping you through the hard times or guiding you through the challenges.
What advice would you give the next generation of female leaders?
Go for the opportunity - don’t talk yourself away from it just because you think you can’t do it at all at that moment. What you don’t know, you will learn and give it 110% to know it all.
I have tell women to go for it, they’ve often doubted themselves because they think they can’t do everything in the job description. Why would you take a job where you can do everything – you'd be bored. And I can guarantee you, no man is questioning the 20% in the job that he can’t do.
What do you feel is your biggest achievement?
My biggest achievement is seeing my team grow and succeed in their careers. Even after moving on, I still get to support them—whether through advice, mentorship, or references—that gives me great pride that I’ve had a lasting impact on their journey.
What would you like to achieve next?
To sit still for 2 weeks? Ha ha. A sold-out female Flite clinic – for foiling and eFoiling.
